Everyone has a preference when it comes to their diet. Some do it for health reasons, others do it for moral or religious beliefs. As long as a person is getting all the proper nutrients for their body, there is no wrong diet.
What is wrong is expecting other people to eat the same food as you do. Cilla Carden, an Australian woman, never learned that lesson because she believes her neighbors should not be allowed to grill meat in their own backyard.
She’s so upset by this in fact that she has gone to the State Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court. Carden claims that “it’s deliberate” and feels that she can’t go on with her life until this matter is settled.
“They’ve put it there so I smell fish, all I can smell is fish. I can’t enjoy my backyard, I can’t go out there”, she said.
The grilled fish aren’t the only problem for Carden, though. She wants her neighbor’s to stop smoking on their private property and wants their kids to stop playing basketball in the backyard as well.
Her neighbors have actually listened to her requests before she went court. They removed their grills, and moved their smoking and basketball games to a different location. Despite their cooperation, one of her neighbors has stated that “Ms. Caden’s demands were proven to not be reasonable and indeed were to the detriment of the other owner’s ability to enjoy their lots in a reasonable and acceptable manner.”
The State Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court have both sided with her neighbors and dismissed her case as well as her appeal request. But Carden says she won’t give up and she’ll keep fighting.
Now with the court on their side, the neighbors have decided to have a neighborhood BBQ in Carden’s honor. A man named Bailey Mason is the one who created the Facebook event for the BBQ and it’s event description reads, “Cilla Carden has a problem with her neighbours cooking meat on their BBQ, because she’s a vegan. Recently taking them to the Supreme Court! Don’t let Cilla destroy a good old Aussie tradition, join us for a community BBQ in protest of her actions, and help Cilla Carden GET SOME PORK ON HER FORK. BYO hotdog buns, p.s. NO VEGANS.”
What do you guys think? Who’s the real victim here? Is the BBQ a funny jab or is it going to far?
